I learn the business before I write the code.

Six years at one ERP company as it grew from three developers to thirty-plus people, first from its Kannur office and in Dubai since 2021. I went from writing features to working across the core product: architecture, incidents, and client-facing financial demos.

Most of my best work sits between engineering and operations: recovering lost data from raw disk, turning months-long deployments into hours, and making complex domains hard to get wrong.

Backups: 4TB down to ~15%
2025
Replaced full multiversion backups for 200+ clients with incremental backups and a GFS retention script. Storage became predictable, with 5–10× effective capacity.
Invoice screen: 3+ minutes to 1–3 seconds
2023
Every invoice recalculated the full balance. Event-driven cached balances fixed it and kept a client who was about to leave; they later upgraded to premium.
Duplicate invoice reference numbers

Traced MAX+1 races and unsafe deadlock retries. Rebuilt reference allocation around a row-locked sequence table.
Server crash recovered in 30 minutes
2023
After half a day of client downtime, found a crashed table and configured MariaDB crash recovery.
A domestic-worker scheduling product for the UAE
2023–24
Recognised that a rushed ERP add-on really needed to be a scheduling system. It grew into a product of its own.
Attendance, payroll & HRM
2021–22
MVP in about two months, working on-site with finance. It grew into a full HRM suite that won many new clients.
Prepaid orders & expenses
2024
Order, sub-task and expense tracking for high-volume typing centres, built on existing accounts. It brought in many small clients.
Browser extension for automated billing
2022
Captured data from a government portal as staff worked, which automated billing and flagged unpaid applications.
Server density: 1 → 3–4 clients per server
2023–24
Ongoing optimisation, up to 10 clients per server depending on configuration. AWS cost per client fell from AED 44 to AED 11 a month.
Permissions, devices & SMS
2022
Centralised role-based access, integrated attendance machines and ID readers, and made SMS providers configurable.

Monitored production servers for hosting clients and cleared performance bottlenecks, with Prometheus for metrics.
Kept client mail flowing: blacklist removal, spam filtering and deliverability fixes on Exim and Dovecot.
Managed DNS on BIND so domains and mail resolved correctly.
Provisioned and configured VPS servers to each client’s requirements, with Let’s Encrypt TLS.
Supported cPanel/WHM and Plesk hosting, and the Magento and WordPress sites running on it.

Carried forward

The server side of every job since started here. It is why a crashed MariaDB table was a 30-minute fix in 2023, and why I could look after servers, backups and the WebSocket infrastructure alongside development.

Refactor bottom-up

Find the exact friction point and move it to another layer. Build from the processor up to the policy; the pattern shows up on its own.

Fix the cause, not the hardware

The client kept buying bigger servers for a slow invoice screen. The real fix was not recomputing the whole ledger on every request.

Make the right thing the easy thing

Strict types, one policy file, one core repo. Good structure protects the team better than documentation does.
